Fishing Calendar

Ocean living organisms are always influenced by the moon phase. The moon is responsible for the movement of high and low tide, water level and speed of current. In order to get full advantage of this natural phenomenon, it is essential for us to understand the moon phase. The only calendars that are associated and follow the moon phase are the Islamic and the Chinese calendar.

This calendar was created by ancient fisherman. It has been used by generation after generation and it has been recognized as the most vital and important tools in the fishing world. The best thing is that it can be used for eternity and it can never be change no matter how, unless the moon is not working anymore. Use only Islamic or Chinese calendar. It cannot work with any other calendars.

16/07/08 Pasir Ris Sea Park - Catch Report

16/07/08 Pasir Ris Sea Park

Today met up with Lam again and decided last minute to go overnight fishing at Pasir Ris. We met around 11plus in the night and made our way to the spot that i always go to fish in the past. (i got a stingyray over there before) Before that, many unfortunate things happened... Haa...

1) Live prawns that i bought before meeting Lam, fell off from the container that was mounted on my bicycle. ( I tilted it slightly when i was trying to get on the bicycle :/ ) Both of us frantically began to pick up the jumping prawns outside 7-eleven. Not to mention a group of guys just beside us keep chanting, " Woah live prawns sia! whoa....live prawns!!!!" - They never see live prawns before meh? like so gong tao lidat....but thanks to a few of them, they got help us.

2) Rushed to the nearby fishing pond, hoping to add water into the styrofoam box in order to keep the prawns alive... went to search for a spot....k lower the box in slowly.... then i heard a snap! sian...the side of the box chipped off..... all the prawns escaped and found their freedom in the pond (but not for long...lol) What a start eh? dropped the prawns on ground, then dropped them into the pond... the people nearby that area where i dropped the live prawns sure have a long night man....the fishes will all eat free bait liao....wahahha

3) Bobian....need to get another 300g of live prawns le......waste $$$....but nevermind i knew in my heart that this was meant to be something....haha....spirits were still high in us even though off to a bad start.......

Got to the desired spot...laid our mats and setup our rods and stuff...began the long long night ahead..... we chatted and Lam was showing me his band's gig on his ipod nano when suddenly he heard his bell ring! It was a catch!!!!! immediately he reeled it in, but then there was no struggle or fight.....in the end his live prawn left only its tail....tt thing actually ate 3/4 of the prawn...it could be a monster fish....excited by the prospect of fishes around.....we tried casting and reeling hoping for the fish to take the bait.

A few hours passed, and we decided to change location....just about 50m away nearer to the mangrove area. Casted and waited for something to happen...Suddenly, my floater ( with lightstick ) was moving left and right....up and down.... hmmm i was thinking no current ley, as it was low tide then....decided to jerk one motion up and then began to reel in.....there was a bite but the fish didnt give much fight! reeled in effortlessly and then it was my 2nd catfish in 2 days!
It has stripes on its body and was making a gawking sound when it was out of the water.

our first fish of the night! and it was already like 4plus.... water movement was really quiet and nothing took our bait except the nearby cats which were waiting when i threw them the decapitated heads of the prawns...lol

Changed location again as it was going to be dawn, went to a rather rocky area and tried casting there as the tide was about to set in....

breaking dawn....

Rising Sun! :)

As the water was fast filling into the canal....i casted my longer rod into the further sea. I left my rod on the ground and went to help Lam to unstuck his rod which line had stuck at the rocky seabed. Then, i turned and looked...my rod's line was moving! i had unlock the reel and allowed the line to move freely if anything actually took my bait...an uncle was nearby fishing and he quickly added that something had taken my bait! ( This uncle comes here quite frequently and recently he just got a KBL 3 weeks ago ) I leaped to my rod and began control over this creature that has devoured my bait.....it was putting on a good fight! trying to manuveur its way out of the hook, it swimmed with ferocity and it felt like a duel between life and death. With all my strength, i tried to reeled it in slowly bit by bit until the fish finally succumbed to its fate and let go of the fight.... it was a nice sized DIAMOND TRAVELLY! :)

it was roughly 2kg....after my first one, the second one came not long after too..... i think i just hit upon a school of travellies that were swimming around that area! i saw my floater went under the water and the same thing happened again....the line was out very fast......and it was another fight to behold again! managed to reel it in after 3mins of tug and pull.... this fellow was a little bigger than the other one.....

upclose picture of this lovely travelly

looking so fresh this chemin :)

in all we caught two of such fishes and a catfish that was in the night....

We left the place pretty worned out by the heat from the sun and dying of thirst....Lam was commenting that the coke was really hot....anibody loves hot coke? :) A near miss too for us, as we spotted a stingray along the area that we were fishing.....but nvm Lam! that ray will be waiting for u when we come back :) Overall this was really a great experience and this spot is a good place to fish during a desired timing...

14/07/08 Punggol Way - Catch Report

This is the first post that i am making in this new blog that i've set up :) much feedback/ advise would be greatly appreciated...

14/07/08 Punggol Way

This was the first trip both lam and i arranged to go fishing after weeks of deciding on a date :) well both of us haven't been really fishing for a long long time. I started out in this hobby when i was in sec3, introduced by my then good buddy...weiwen.... i learnt some basic knots to fishing and even got fishing books! (dunno where have they went :p ) but i did still had my tackle box and also 2 rods...one a 4ft rod and another about 6ft rod.

We met at changi village initially because we intended to fish at changi shore. Weather was good and it was really sunny despite it is monsoon season now in Singapore... We set up and then casted our first toss into the sea! guess what....lam keep getting seaweeds lar!!! made a light comment about the brand "Sure Catch", confirm surely catch something one....yaaa in this case SEAWEEDS!

I was worse off than lam...keep getting rubbbish things like dirt and mud stuck on the lure....it was a really turn-off experience....i lost 2 lures that i just bought from the tackleshop and lam had his line snapped off as well, not fish, but getting stuck at the bottom of the seabed! Geeess....wasted 1hr plus....time to change location.....so off we went in a cab and to PUNGGOL WAY

We dropped from the cab and found a spot which was at the jetty. There is a police coast guard post nearby....wonder was it setup post Mas-Selamat? LOL aniway...there were already 2 fellow anglers there fishing.....

a few hours passed and we caught nothing, the anglers beside us caught 2 catfishes....but it was CNR (Catch and Release). A few more minutes later, i felt a tuck from my rod....a fish has taken the bait! reeled it in and whoa! it was mine 1st catch of the day....

1st catch! :)

closer pic
its a catfish as well! its a small one, roughly about 300g in weight.. :) we also hanged down a line (8 sized-2 hooks with sinker) into the water with prawn pieces as bait....in the end caught some small fish... around 6 of them! used the milk fish as bait too.....
Nearby us got an uncle caught a squid which was about 30cm in length...it squirted ink on the floor...haha guess it was kan chong....

We fished until 11pm...wanted to torn overnight....but then due to circumstances and lack of movement in the waters and also legs and hands suddenly itchy.....packed up and took bus back home.....it was a good day, we left with great expectancy about this place and will be back again :)
